lelekfalo commented on I have some questions... reddit
What happens when a person suffers some sort of accident or disease that affects their ability to taste and smell?
They stop eating.
This is a common and long-understood issue. My own grandmother had to be coaxed to eat after she was left with no sense of smell, lest she waste away to nothing.
On the flip side, who is most affected by this virus? Which country has a disproportionate number of cases per capita, regardless of mitigating measures?
Obviously, heart attacks and limb amputations aren't enough of a deterrent to stop Americans from eating themselves into one big, collective, diabetic coma. Maybe the aptly nicknamed "COVID Diet" will get the message across.

Humans are like children. Children are stupid, messy, and get themselves into trouble. But do you know what an adult does when a child asks for help? Here's a hint: profiting off their suffering and misery isn't the answer.
Sure there are the insidious bullies pushing the other kids around, but 90% of the others are just normal kids with no clue as to what the hell is going on in the world. They are shaped, guided, and formed by the wiser, older adults around them. Kids are always a reflection of their parents - good or bad. Putting out a cigarette on your son's arm and then getting the belt is gonna create one fucked up adult.
lelekfalo commented on I have some questions... reddit
Are you an American? Do you live in a "democracy?" Are you not responsible for holding your leaders accountable to the people they supposedly represent?
They are winning because of responses like yours. By the time they take enough power to piss anyone off enough to try and do anything about it, it'll be too damn late.
Our apathy is what is going to keep us fucked.

I really dont see how this is a bad thing.
They have the foresight to see that this technology is imminent, and have made it illegal to force employees to be chipped.
You can't outright ban all chipping, as the individual has every right to choose to be chipped. This law, though, paves the way for a future banning should the practice of chipping prove to be detrimental in the eyes of the law.
While we all know chipping is the one thing we have to avoid, we can't just legislate it away because of what we know or feel. That's not how our legal system works.
lelekfalo commented on Michigan Passes Controversial Bill To Microchip Humans Voluntarily To Protect Their Privacy reddit
You can't past a law banning chipping. Unfortunately, everyone has a right to be chipped if they choose.
We can, though, pass laws requiring people receive some education on the current and possible future risks of chipping should they decide to be chipped.

It's not blood. It's algae.
Granted, like I said, the timing is symbolic. But I think the tone here discredits the message. People looking for a rational explanation of the signs we have been given over millennia are going to write this off as evangelical "The end is nigh!" doomer speak. It scares the level-headed away, and excludes those who shy away from His word for this exact style of "preaching."
Edit: Just realized this article has pictures of many instances across many years. Guess the timing isn't as symbolic. This is just clickbait.

While I don't disagree that the timing of this natural (and frequent) phenomenon can be taken as a sign, I feel the bombastic presentation of this information hurts the integrity of this sub and dilutes the valid messages contained herein.

I'll give it to you that "M95" is model of military grade gas mask. But we aren't talking about military grade gas masks, though, are we?
We are providing people with info and resources for masks to prevent spread of disease. What is widely sold and available to the public in such scenarios are masks categorized N95 and above.
If you read the link I shared, it has nothing to do with Amazon. It was to clarify confusion about mask rating and naming.
THIS is what people should be buying.
lelekfalo commented on No Comment... reddit
Then he misspoke or you misheard.
https://www.coopersafety.com/respirator-types
Clearing up any misunderstanding, there are 3 types of mask ratings: N, P and R. Each rating has 3 levels of efficiency: 95, 99 and 100.
If we are spreading information to help people keep themselves healthy and protected in times like these, I believe it is imperative to keep said information as accurate as possible.
lelekfalo commented on No Comment... reddit
N95.
M95 isn't a thing, afaik.
Edit: M95 is a military grade gas mask in and of itself separate from standard mask and respirator series' and levels.
This mask has been recommended, which is an N95 mask.
lelekfalo commented on No Comment... reddit
You mean N95, right? I don't think there is an "M" series of masks/respirators... just N, P and R.
N series masks protect against solid particles and non-oil based liquids. R series masks protect against oil based liquids as well, and P series is like the R series with a longer service life.

I'm not saying preaching and texts have no place. I'm saying we divide ourselves as Christians by remaining staunchly "canonical." You are Lutheran because that's what you believe. Those are the rules you agree with that make sense to you.
It doesn't make them right or invalidate what you view (through your own logic) as "non-canonical."
Edit: To add...
What makes us similar to them is a solar mythos and a Redeemer. Those are the similarities we need to harness, and some non-canonical texts support those similarities. If it brings us together as children of the One, I'm all for it and fuck doctrine.
lelekfalo commented on Christianity now most persecuted religion in the world: report reddit
To, me, the goal is to get closer to God, regardless of whatever pretty picture humans have painted on how to do that. Coherent doctrine isn't needed as "proof" you can trust God. Faith doesn't need proof.

lelekfalo commented on Christianity now most persecuted religion in the world: report reddit
I don't see what's wrong with any of that, or why groups of stuffy old power-seeking men would write it out of canon over a few centuries.
lelekfalo commented on Christianity now most persecuted religion in the world: report reddit
I don't see how it makes Christ a sinner.
I also don't see how, in the long-winded flowery bits about "Saklas" it negates the existence of a One above all. Just seems like this "Saklas" figure is an allegory of some sort.
lelekfalo commented on Christianity now most persecuted religion in the world: report reddit
I don't see how it undermines anything.
At least not more than the NT undermines the OT.
I'm not saying I'm going to start a movement to enter into cannon, because, quite frankly, "canon" is a human construct and not a single one if us can truly validate any if it.
lelekfalo commented on Christianity now most persecuted religion in the world: report reddit
I don't see how it "throws away" the old testament.
All of these texts, canonical or not, are chock full of symbolism, allegory and other fanciful literary charm. Holding so fast to "doctrine" and simply writing off "opposing" sources means you'll be lacking snippets of the accounts of/about/for "others."
The Infancy texts were dropped because they were essentially useless according to you. They didn't "add" to the story of Christianity that select councils of humans wanted to tell. I don't think that's fair.
At the minimum, couldn't they hold the same validity as the Hadiths do in Islam?
And, ultimately, your pretty "doctrine" is nothing but a set of rules that squabbling old men agreed upon hundreds of years after the Son was nailed to that cross.
lelekfalo commented on Christianity now most persecuted religion in the world: report reddit
What if the Spirit and inner testimony guide you to treat the Gospel of Judas with plausibility?

lelekfalo commented on Christianity now most persecuted religion in the world: report reddit
Oh, they couldn't admit that Judas' actions were part of the Son's plan. Then they'd be down a scapegoat.

You're argument is full of holes.
Are there members of the human species who would think of the life of that cow? Yes. You know that. One of the most densely populated countries in this planet is full of 996 million individuals who would never hurt a cow.
There are movements all over the world to promote ethical and sustainable livestock practices. Why? Because it's an asshole move to treat living creatures like shit. From my own, personal, viewpoint (shared with many others) it's an abomination to treat God's creatures with recklessness and cruelty.
And if a cow looked a farmer in the eyes one day and said "Please, don't kill me," you don't believe he'd think twice before slicing its throat?
But let's throw a little Pascal's Wager in the mix, here.
Which outcome is in your best interest when you're standing face to face with your maker?
Brushing humanity off as livestock in your "class system of utilization," or listening to the cow looking you in the eyes and suddenly pleading "Don't turn me into a jacket"?

I've always gone back and forth on "eugenics."
On one hand, people should be "free" to love whomever and reproduce.
On the other hand, many abuse that freedom. I worked with a girl who was dating a guy who had 5 kids by 4 different women. It was a mark of pride for him to have "conquered" that many women, but an inconvenience to have to fork over child support every month. His exes enjoyed the government's monetary handouts for being impoverished single mothers, and my coworker was enamored with his "bad boy" lifestyle. I just felt bad for those poor kids...
But then the last time we had sanctioned eugenics, we ended up with the Nazis.

In the arranged marriages I've encountered, I've noticed the couple grows to "love" one another. Partners are selected for practical reasons, with little regard for attraction.
In most of western culture, however, there is more of a focus on finding a partner you are interested in, attracted to, and are "in love" with.

My optician was appalled he responded with violence. I explained that the kid responded in the only language his attacker understood. He stood his ground, and refused to get the shit kicked out of him by another young man who was a sore loser and thought a violent tantrum was a solution to his woes.

Oh, I am probably not the best person to answer that question! :D
To me, love comes in many forms. I like the idea of the Greeks having multiple words for love, because I think it's pretty damned accurate.
The love you have for a parent, a child, a partner, a pet, or a friend all feel different.
As a kid, you love your mom and dad. Sure, you'll have many instances where it feels like you can't stand your parents. We've all been there. "OMG I *hate* my parents! I can't wait until I'm 18 and I can just move out!" But, despite those moments, you still know in your heart they have your best interests in mind, and are just trying to do what's right to help you grow into a functioning adult. (I'm speaking of a generally normal situation. I understand some people have some really shit parents, so this obviously doesn't apply to all situations.)
Your love for your parents can, and often does, grow when you have your own kids. You see it from the other side then. You have this new life that *you* created, and you want to love it and care for it and give it everything you possibly can. You want your child to grow to be a happy, healthy, successful adult. And then it still throws tantrums, yells at you, tells you it hates you, etc... because it *can't possibly* understand the love you have for it.
I think the love one has for a pet is along those lines. The big difference is that my dog will never sass back when I tell him to stop licking his paws, and he's *always* happy as shit when I come home every day. Dogs, in my mind, are a great example of unconditional love. It doesn't matter what kind of day you had or how bad you smell, your dog *loves the shit out of you.* And how can that not fill you with warm fuzzies?!
The love for friends and siblings is similar in my mind, too. These are peers who you can share similar experiences with and grow with. The big difference here is obviously that you can *choose* you friends based on similar interests and the like. Siblings can tend to have a more experiential bond.
The love you have for a partner, though, is a special one. In the beginning, it's new, exciting, and full of hormones/pheromones. But, over time, as the newness and excitement wears off, it can become a deep companionship.
For me, relationships have always grown out of friendships. My past partners and I have had similar interests, experiences, and values. These are the things that brought together. We were both interested in similar topics, had a similar sense of humor, and shared similar values, goals, and views on life.
These are the same things that brought my current boyfriend and I together. Over time, our love has grown past friendship, past infatuation, and into companionship. Do I still sometimes get those excited butterflies? Sure. But now I also get a warm, comforted, safe feeling that only comes with time.
He's my partner. We are a team. We both have one another's best interests in mind, we both help one another grow as individuals, and we both try to be the best person we can be for the other. If I'm down, he helps bring me back up - and I strive to do the same for him. If either of us has a stressful day at work, we know we have someone to come home to to decompress with. We know we each have one another's back, no matter what the world decides to throw at us.
Do we sometimes disagree or argue? Sure! Do we each have our occasional "blah" days? Absolutely. But we communicate or give eachother space, and get through that kind of shit. We resolve and reconcile; use them as opportunities to grow. We know life and people aren't perfect, and those hiccups are too insignificant to allow them to affect a strong relationship.
We each *want* to be the best person we can be for the other, and that unity is something special. And I think that's what God kind of wants us to find in a partner... a companion who will stand by our side through thick and thin, and who will help us grow into the best version of ourselves. And if/when you find that in a person, it's a very warm, comfy, safe and *joyous* feeling.

I'm sure people are definitely genetically predisposed to refractive error. It's no longer an evolutionary disadvantage to not be able to see naturally when you can just pop a pair of glasses on.
Myopic eyes don't get "weaker" *or* "stronger" with glasses wear, sure. I'll refrain from using the terms "strengh" or "weakness" in regards to prescriptions, as those tend to bring to mind muscle function (which is another separate function of ocular physiology you brought up that I'll touch on in a moment). A myopic eye just tends to get more myopic over time, especially during adolescence.
I promise you that your myopia has *everything* to do with the shape of your eye. A myopic eye, by definition: 1. is too long, and/or 2. has a cornea that is too steep. In both cases, this brings light to focus at a point in *front* of the retina, as opposed to directly *on* the retina. This means that light behind the point where it is most focused gets dispersed and is unfocused by the time it reaches the retina. The resulting image perceived by your brain is then blurry.
The increase in your correction when you were younger isn't because of permanent damage caused by overwearing a distance correction or doctors frequently over-correcting. (There is actually a strict rule in the industry to push as *little* minus as you possibly can in a myope and keep their Rx as "plussy" as you possibly can without compromising visual acuity.) The reason myopes get more myopic during adolescence is because when you're a kid, you're whole body is doing a lot of growing, including your eyes. (This is also why things like scoliosis become apparent and quickly progress at this age. Lots of moving parts.)
Now, as for myopes and wearing corrective lenses for near point activies...
Depending on your Rx, your eye doctor may or may not suggest wearing your glasses for all activities. At -0.50 or -0.75, I would recommend a patient wear this correction for all distance activities, i.e. to see the board better in a classroom, while driving, going to the movies, or whenever they wanted things further away to be sharpened up a bit.
Now, if you have a patient with a -3.00 and up, they can't see shit far away and even things a foot in front of their face are a blurry mess. Using myself for an example, at a -6.00ish, with my contact lenses out I have to hold an object roughly 6 inches from my face in order for it to be perfectly clear. This kind of patient needs to have that correction on at all times.
That brings me to your comment in regards to near point accomodation. When you look at an object up close, yes, the ciliary body squishes or pulls the lens to bring whatever you're looking at into focus. It's kind of like a squishy magifying glass right inside your eye. This is called accomodation.
Over time, constant near activity can cause fatigue in these muscles just like any other over-exerted muscle in your body. Putting a *plus-powered* prescription (like a magnifying glass) in front of your eyes will make them have to do less work, and reduce eyestrain.
The uptick in near point strain these days has less to do with over-corrected myopes and more to do with how much time we now spend on devices. To combat this, there are many lenses out there at stick a bit of plus power near the bottom of the lens to decrease the amount of accomodation the eye has to do. This, in turn, reduces ocular fatigue.
(When patients hit their 40s and up, the lens in the eye begins to lose it's elasticity and, therefore, ability to accommodate. That's when people would start needing reading glasses or glasses with a plus power at the bottom (e.g. bifocals or progressives). *Now,* I'm putting teenagers and college students in these kinds of lenses, due to how much accommodation fatigue they're experiencing. I would have never imagined doing that 15 years ago!)
That being said, myopia and near point accomodation are two separate issues. A 10-year-old kid with a -1.00 doesn't *need* to take his glasses off while reading a book, but doing so may reduce eyestrain. But if he *does* keep his glasses on, it won't make his *myopia* worse.
I don't know your medical history, but I'd venture a guess that your highest Rx of -3.50 was perhaps a tad over-corrected, and the -1.75 you wear to drive may be a bit under-minused.
Myopes can be tough, because we don't like our minus taken away from us. Like I said, I capped out around a -7.00 when I was 18. In the exam room, I could probably read the 20/20 line with a -6.50, but in the real world, I liked that extra crisp vision. So, my contacts were -7.50 in my right eye and -6.50 in my left.
Over the years, my prescription has gotten a bit less severe, and I've gone down a diopter in my prescription (meaning I now wear a -6.50 and a -5.50.) I could easily read a 20/20 line with a -5.75 and -5.00, but I'm a stubborn myope and refuse to do so. :'D So, I pop on some +1.00 glasses to do stuff up close if my eyes get tired or if the ambient light is dim.
As for the improvement in your acuity when not wearing your correction during your trip, this also has to do with accomodation. Your eyes *can* adapt to not having the correct prescription in front of them, and I've had patients with wicked bad prescriptions come through my office who've never worn a pair of glasses a day in their life... but this can also cause unnecessary strain.
The best thing you can do for your eyes is wear the *correct* prescription for you, so you're not causing any undue stress.
I'd love to see that study about "fovea desensitization." The idea of myopes having a thicker retina is ludicrous to me, as one of the biggest dangers a myope faces is *thinning* of the retina. If you can find it, please send me a link!
If you ever do decide to get refractive surgery, I'm old-fashioned and therefore a fan of PRK. The flap they have to cut to perform LASIK just... doesn't sit well with me.

No! It doesn't work like that! lol
A lot of people are under the misconception that if you start wearing glasses, your eyes become dependent on them and get weaker over time.
This isn't true. The rapid changes in your Rx when you were young were due to your eyes changing shape as the rest of you grew. I went from a -3.25 at age 9 to a -7.00 by age 18.
A Rx will plateau in your late teens with slower and more minor changes from year to year after that. If you're a myope, it will start going back the other way the closer you get to 40. (If you're a hyperope - meaning you have a plus Rx - you're just fucked either way. 🤣)
Depending on your prospective job, you may only be allowed to get certain types of refractive surgery. PM if you want more info. I'd be happy to answer any eye-related questions.
As for the floaters, they're just bits of cells that slough off the inner layer of your eye and float around in your inner eyeball goo, casting shadows on your retina every now and then. Myopes tend to have more because our eyes are longer than normal. The longer the eye, the more stretchy tension the retina experiences, and the greater your chances for those cells to slough off. Worst case scenario, they rip in a big way, and you have a retinal tear or detachment.
So a floater every so often is normal. If you get TONS all at once suddenly (and especially if they are accompanied by flashes of light, big shadows or spider web-like things, and/or pain), get your ass to an eye doctor pronto.
lelekfalo commented on Who’s that Pokémon? ;) reddit
Myopes, hyperopes, and emmetropes can all have them. They just... happen.
High myopes do have a tendency to have more and be at risk for retinal detachment, though.

Wiley's counterpoint to these anti-capitalist claims was that if the consumer knew for certain his canned beans had no chance of causing death by dysentery, he'd be apt to buy a lot more beans.
But for some reason we can't seem to apply this same logic to other industries that are polluting and contaminating our world. The idea that a healthy, clean world could promote prosperity and allow us to flourish is a foreign concept to many.

This is where the Egyptians got the name Bastet from, then?
Edit: Also, wanted to comment on your comment about the Ba'alaket having to answer "where heaven and earth meet," but it appears to be a locked thread. "Akhet" in Ancient Egyptian was a word for "horizon..." the place where heaven and earth meet.

Sometimes people are very effective at making themselves look like fools.
Your official alert to our species in the form of a subreddit is your message. My message (and I'd like to think I speak for more than a few here) is that I believe the words spoken to us in this place by Glycon, and will subsequently go forth seeking and spreading truth for the sake of the salvation of our species. That is the message I dont wanted cheapened by trolls, tits and merchandise.

A shell is rather effective for those lacking talons and fangs...
I'm sorry, I just have a hard time seeing the efficacy of granting him any more time in the spotlight. Were his accusations cruel and untrue? Absolutely. But I still have a hard time seeing how sinking to his level shows that we are willing to fight for the truth.
Turning the other cheek doesn't make one weak. It means one has the sensibilities to not act on impulse, and grants them the ability to strategize a calculated counter-attack.
Taking the moral higher ground isn't ignoring an issue... it's putting oneself in the advantageous position.
Fuck Soulja. Fuck his lies. But I'd rather watch him metaphorically slit his own throat.

"Ael" is a title bestowed upon a species who has learned to speak in real time.
The "Ba" is their own prefix.

I'm glad you think it's funny.
I, for one, am wary of the shitshow this has become. Soulja55 could have been dealt with quickly and efficiently, without the online pissing contest we've all witnessed.
But now we've cheapened the message even further by posting titty pics in "defense" of RD.
Now, I'm no prude, and I appreciate a good amount of comic relief, but there is a time and place for such things. I fail to see how posting this has done anything to promote constructive discourse here.
But hey, sex and violence sell, I guess.

Admitting to phone calls and shared photos. It just has the potential of attracting unwanted attention. Not that you shared anything revealing, I just think all of us here need to remember that our privacy is paramount.

It happens; I was just fairly certain we've talked about this before. We live in an era of misinformation, and as such, I believe it has become increasingly important to seek and speak truth.
You know, you have a humility that is desperately lacking in so many people. I admire that about you. I, unfortunately, suffer the woman's curse of never being able to admit when she's wrong. 😁

Thank you.
I am no model Catholic by any means, and I disagree with more than a few of the Church's stances, but I will certainly defend it for all the good it has done over the past couple millennia.
While it has been corrupted by man throughout history, the Church at its core has done a great deal to push humanity forward through striving to understand our Creator and following the teachings of our Savior. And it's the only one of the "original" sects of Christianity I've seen leave such an impact on society.

Did you really just reply to a 3 year old comment on a sub I stopped participating in 2 years ago to correct what was probably a grammatical autocorrect error?
