Very interesting...

One could essentially make a nickel ($0.05) worth $7.73 (At time of posting) if they micro-etched a hash that is worth 0.001 bitcoins.

Could even create the golden nickel hidden in circulation and have it worth 1 bitcoin, or any desired value.

Indeed.
And were you to do this, laws regarding the defacing of currency would be rigorously enforced.
Companies making magician’s trick quarters are ignored because they are not adding or subtracting value from the coin as ‘currency.’
The moment that people take the modification of ‘currency’ into their own hands, you are taking action against the centralized banking system which controls money supply and influences its value through interest rate, scarcity and spread via national policies.
Be careful.

I believe pennies are worth less than the copper they're minted on now. Still the law does apply.

The value of tender has been falling since it was practically created...

Can we just resort to commodity goods and trading between people?

Value can be created and determined in negotiating trade, right?

My apple for your banana sort of deal. A barrel of water for a crate of food.

A bag of salt for a bag of sugar.

I thought they didn't even have copper in them anymore.

Last time we tried to rein in the Federal Reserve, EO 11110 resulted in a bullet being put through a man's head in Dallas.

Edit: And, to your point, this got Jackson shot, too.

How about the MacCoin

“The Big Mac index was invented in 1986 to measure currency purchasing power”

The narrowing of banking privileges has begun.
