Y'know, recently my bf and I had a very interesting discussion in regards to RD and China! I had just learned about the Chinese social credit system and was disparaging it quite heavily, and then brought up, "tHeY LiStEn tO ThEiR DrAgoNS!!"
It was a pretty judgmental ribbing lol, and I mentioned I've gathered that RD society's is one that promotes proper societal conduct through the influence of group v. individual (the particular instance that came to mind was RD not liking our foolish human drunks running amok 😆). This was coming from my offended American sensibilities, and I still stand by the social credit system being some cocksucking bullshit to a degree (logically we could all have a very long debate about societal control influencing individual behavior for overall harmony and order), but I very much appreciated my bf offering his insight to soften my initial judgement.
He posited that, as societies around the universe develop, they continuously improve at cultivating order. As this order propagates and society advances closer to a holy paragon of what it should ideally be, crimes and misdemeanors carry much more weight than they would here. So, while I think Chinese apps created for citizens to effectively 'snitch' on others is infuriating, I kinda understand why RD might be on board with such a society. I had specifically griped that the tattle tale-ing was related to paying debts, but I would bet in RD's society, not paying back a debt is an immoral, super asshole move.
So idk! Not necessarily a comment with a specific stance on RD or China, but I wanted to share what I thought was a very thought-provoking discussion. I try to be mindful of people's past experiences and perspectives, and their effects on the individual's current thinking, and I think our alien acquaintances are no exception. I don't know RD by any stretch, but I'm glad I was forced to empathize with what I imagine his experiences to be!

Unfortunately my opinions on the topic are not fully explored and curated; my main goal with the comment was to share some interesting feedback I received outside of myself, and to demonstrate a willingness to understand other viewpoints that is hopefully reciprocated by aliens and humans alike. I will have to give the topic more thought though!
